Three years ago I ran my last full marathon. Half way through I felt a pain in my hip but kept going. Over the weeks and months the pain worsened and my journey began.
Three years later, along with many doctor visits, dozens of x-rays, 7 MRIs, about 10 cortisone shots, two body scans, finding a tumor on my lower L2 nerve, and a few referrals I’m here, ready to have a completely torn hip labrum repaired. It’s been a rough three years not knowing, and going from running 45 miles a week to 18 or less was hard. I can’t complain though, because by the grace of God I have run injury free for 37 years.
Ironically, the last three years have been the most difficult and confusing in life and ministry. Sometimes God strips everything away to bring us closer to Him, reveal Himself to us and do a needed work in us so we can be all He intended and prepare us for our next season of life. I’m ready. I’m ready for it all and excited.
Regardless of our circumstance, I’ve been reminded that God is always for us and never against us. Isaiah 43:1-3 says “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God,The Holy One of Israel, your Savior”
What an amazing promise of His faithfulness. This verse is a testimony of His faithfulness over the past few years for me, my family and future.
