“The remarkable thing about God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.” Oswald Chambers
As a follower of Jesus, I don’t have time to worry about a virus. I honestly don’t care about statistics, masks, and am not a worshipper of science. I worship the creator of science, and that creator has said 365 times, do not fear, do not worry, do not be anxious. Yes, I know, people will lecture me about science, but that same science tried to tell us for years, that life didn’t begin at conception. Remember, fellow scientists, that God is the creator of science, not man.
The greatest parody of the Christian faith has been the last six months. We believe, yet we don’t. We trust, yet we don’t. We are not afraid, but we are looking out for our fellow man, because of course, perhaps God has limitations.
We are living in the darkest, most unsettling times our world has seen as a whole. We have not been called to hunker down in our homes and wait for the government to fix the problems or wait for a vaccine to keep us healthy. We are to be about the business of Jesus Christ. We are called to continue pressing forward and bringing the Gospel to the lost and broken.
What if David surrendered to the fears of Saul? What if Paul surrendered to threats? What if Moses buckled in fear to Pharoah? What if Jesus hid instead of going to the cross. Thank God they taught us what it looks like to stand in the face of threat and do not fear. Will we trust?
I think many believers stopped fearing God long ago, what an unnerving place that must be because you are fearing everything else. I can honestly say, fearing God is the most liberating step of faith you can take because you are letting go of all else in total surrender and saying my creator is bigger than everything else I see and don’t see.
What an amazing view to see our situation through that lens.
