“A full Christ is for empty sinners only, and as long as there is a real empty soul in a congregation, so long will a blessing go forth with the Word. It is not our emptiness but our fullness which can hinder the outgoings of free grace.” Charles Spurgeon
If 2020 has not forced you to examine the realness of your faith, the shallowness of our humanness and the inability to control our lives, then I don’t know what will. Our prayer should be that Jesus will keep us shallow to ourselves and fully dependent upon Him and Him alone.
Yes, this difficult and painful year is coming to an end, but true survival will only be conquered when we are bankrupt to ourselves so we can be filled with the glory that provides more than survival, but true life.
Jesus Christ sits on His throne waiting and wanting to pour into our souls. We wait, we desire, we want and we hope and then wonder why nothing changes. What we don’t do is purge the garbage that creates the fullness, that hinders the blessing and restoration of the soul.
We are a people occupied by a dangerous world. We are clueless to what a surrendered life really is. Because of our arrogance, we are afraid to be depleted of ourselves and because if that, the Heavenly pitcher remains idle.
If we thought 2020 was hard, wait until we step into 2021. Step away from yourself by shifting your posture to a humble and contrite spirit that can be filled with the sustaining power that gives us life.
